2011-08-29 BC Team - Western Twenty20 Cup Champions
|
Gagan Dhillon Special Brings BC the Western T20 Cup
BC team started the tournament on a comfortable note with easy wins over Manitoba and Saskatchewan. BC 89-3 defeated Manitoba 88-7 and BC defeated Saskatchewan by 80 runs.
The tournament final was, for all intents and purposes, a showdown between old rivals Alberta and British Columbia, featuring many fine national stars like Hamza Tariq, Khurram Chohan and Jimmy Hansra as well as Tyson Gordon and Grant Broadhurst. In the final match,
Alberta won the toss and elected to bat first and after scoring at torrid pace in excess of 10 runs an over in the first 4, slowed considerably to manage a paltry 128 in their allotted 18 overs (matches reduced to save time as some players had to catch a plane ride home). BC knocked off the target with relative ease in only 13.2 overs.
Man-of-the Match and Man-of-the Series, Gagan Dhillon (66), made the Alberta attack look like a walk in the Park. Towering sixes were hit all over the ground. It was a rare treat for the many fans present. B C will now travel to Toronto for the national championship in September. Alberta were clearly disappointed with their effort on this day. Gaurav Kumar was the other key highlight of the tournament with excellent batting display and Manny Aulakh justified his inclusion in Senior Canada squad touring to Ireland with excellent bowling. Rashid Masood maintained good line and length to keep the opponents on a check. Not only was Jimmy Hansra's performance with bat and ball but also his captaincy was appreciated by all including other provinces.
Match Referee Angus Melder managed the proceedings with verve, professionalism and aplomb. George Robinson worked tirelessly and many long hours (in the run-up to, and during, the tournament) to get the ground, the food and other logistics in place. Anil Velji was the lone scorer and did a very good job keeping an accurate account of the stats.
The umpiring standard was outstanding, and the correct decisions adjudicated at 97.5 percentile. The roster included Hafeez Rehman, Dilip Pachigar, Sanjeev Kad and Ron Saywack, some of the best in Canada. There were no major incidents and the players were highly appreciative of the effort the men in red and black put in. [More News] |

2011-06-01 President XI Vs Vice President XI - Match Report
|
We had a great game between "President XI Vs Vice President XI' on Victoria Day, Monday, 23rd May'11 at 12:00pm, Upper Brockton ground. Alex XI won the toss and elected to bat first. It turned out to be bad decision for Alex XI and Inamul Xi got great start from opening bowler Lex Perry who tore through Alex Xi opening batting order by taking 4 wickets (Lex 4/49). Dilpreet Dhillon helped from other end by giving one of his best performances and by taking 3 wickets including Jimmy Hansra and Manrick Singh (Dilpreet 3/28), Jawad Dawood also bowled well and took 2 wickets for 11 runs. At one point Alex XI score was 57 runs for 5 wickets and it seems like that they will not even reach 100 runs in this game. But then some hard hitting from Manrick Singh (20 runs) and sensible batting from Thanenthiran Kurooparan (41 runs), Parminder Malhi (20 runs) and Gagan mahal (34 not out) took Alex XI score to 199 runs in 50 overs.
Inamul XI got good start from their opener Ibrahim Khalil (30 Runs) and Jawad Dawood (19 runs). Then Player of the game Jason Sandher took over the game. Jason played beautifully and scored 78 not out with 4 huge sixes to the long end. Inamul XI achieved their target in 49th over, Jason Sander won Best Batsman award and Lex Perry won the best bowler award. [Match Pictures (154pics)] [Match Pictures (178pics)] |
